Paul Broun is the Georgia 10th Congressional District's representative to the United States House of Representatives. His district includes the part of Richmond County in which the Islamic Society of Augusta is located and all of Columbia County.

On October 14, 2009, Paul Broun, Sue Myrick (North Carolina 9th), John Shadegg (Arizona 3rd) and Trent Franks (Arizona 2nd) held a press conference in which they accused the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) of seeking to undermine the security of the United States and promoted an Islamophobic book by Paul Sperry entitled Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That's Conspiring to Islamize America.

Several Congresspeople and prominent media personnel have issued statements denouncing the actions of Broun and his colleagues.

The Media Matters Action Network has also created a page exposing the fallacies of the press conference and the authors of the book Broun and his colleagues promoted.

CAIR has a document entitled Top Internet Disinformation About CAIR.

The Islamic Society of Augusta asks people to contact Representative Paul Broun to express their opinions regarding these activities and to request Paul Broun to meet with constituents concerned that his actions fail to promote security, restrict Muslim participation in government and encourage anti-Muslim sentiment in the general population.

In addition, the Civic Action Commitee of the Islamic Society of Aguusta has asked Brother Chaudhry Sadiq, the president of the South Carolina Chapter of CAIR, to come to the masjid on Sunday, November 1, 2009 to help us become better prepared to respond to attacks against Muslims.
