History

1975The center and the constitution of the Islamic Society of Augusta was first envisioned in 1975 by five families living at the time in Augusta.
1976The constitution was written, voted and approved in May, 1976.
1979Land for the center was purchased in September, 1979.
1983All property (land, future construction etc) was put in trust with NAIT.
1984Construction for the new mosque and the center began in June, 1984.
1985After nearly a year of construction and numerous fund raising, the new center was first inaugurated in March, 1985.
1986The original constitution and the by-laws were first amended and approved by the General Membership Body, February 23.
1988A 50 grave site section was purchased from Hillcrest Memorial in May. Amendment to by-laws approved, Quarterly Business meeting, June 12.
1990A "Mosque Expansion" project was initiated in December, 1990.
1992Amendment to by-laws approved, Quarterly Business meeting, June 7.
1993Amendment to by-laws approved, Quarterly Business meeting, May 30.
1994Actual construction for the mosque expansion program began, June, 1994.
1995An existing house (adjacent to the center) on 120-Davant street was purchased for Imam residence in April, 1995. Amendment to by-laws approved, Weekly Business meeting, Dec., 17.
1996The expansion (that began in June, 94) and other improvements of the center were completed in August, 1996, increasing the covered area of the center from 3200 sq. ft to 9000 sq. ft.
1997Amendment to by-laws approved, Weekly Business meeting, Dec., 7.
1998The attendance at ISA increased from 20 participating families in 1985 to nearly 120 families this year. Our part time school has almost 80 children enrolled in grades I-VI. Besides five times daily prayer and Dawa activities, other important programs such as Quranic tafseer, seminars, seerat conferences, youth activities, etc. continue throughout the year.
